Center for Forestry and Ecology

The main research themes are: Upland hardwood silviculture and management, agroforestry, natural resource and environmental policy, wildlife management, clonal propagation and genetics, short rotation woody biomass, woody plant stress physiology, agroforestry and enhancing service to underserved landowners. One of the long-term themes of forestry research is the genetics and breeding of Virginia pine for which a second-generation seed orchard is maintained.

Center for Forest Ecosystems Assessment

The two major goals of the Center are to:

• Strengthen integrative, multi-disciplinary research for improved understanding of forest ecosystems, and
• Increase the number of trained professionals, especially African-Americans, engaged in research, teaching and management of renewable natural resources.

CFEA provides AAMU an opportunity to systematically plan for and accomplish these goals and subsumed objectives, which include: an enhanced research base, enhanced graduate student training, curricula and faculty development, and development of research facilities and resources through planned synchrony in multi-disciplinary research and training.
