Decent value, good cutting, but clunky

This saw is more something that might work great for some people, but not others. I bought this particular saw because it cost less to buy the saw + the battery than it would cost to buy a new battery for my Oregon saw. I read a few articles that indicate the EGO had great battery life, so I thought the price combined with battery expectations made sense. The battery is a disappointment. 5.0 amp hours ought to cut longer than this. My Oregon with 4 amp hours does better. Could be that the chain isn't as efficient as the chain on my Oregon. The other issue I have with the saw is the bulkiness. That battery is big. BIG. It makes the saw feel clumsy. If you're just out sawing logs in the woods or field, you probably won't mind it. But, I use the saw for girdling trees, and a nimble saw is essential. I should note that in use, the saw doesn't feel as heavy as I expected. I think the large battery actually gives it a good balance. So, again, if you're using it in the conventional way, you may find it pretty handy.

Awesome

Love this saw. I don’t have experience with more powerful gas models, but I took down a large stand of pines the biggest of which were maybe 40’ tall and 15” in diameter and this worked like a breeze - never wished I had more power even when making plunge cuts, bucking the larger trunks or other tricky situations. You definitely want to have some spare batteries ready if you’re working all day - I didn’t count the cuts, but generally I get a couple hours out of the 5 Ah battery before it runs out. Luckily I use ego for all my tools so I have a couple 2.5Ah batteries which I can use in a pinch when the 5Amp runs out and needs to recharge. The 5Ah batteries are darn expensive so Im glad I didn’t need to get two of them. Like I said I’ve never used gas, but the ease of operation on this is great - no mixing messy oil and gas or dealing with smoke or concerns about engine problems - just throw the battery on and it works. It’s also quieter which is nice when I’m working early or late since I have nearby neighbors. Also the auto chain tensioner is nice. Putting it back together if you get a chain pinch and it comes off the track is easy (happened to me one time, user error with a sloppy cut.

Great power for an electric chainsaw

I also have the EGo lawnmower with 7.5Aw battery. I was so impressed with how well it handles mowing my 1/3 acre lot that I decided to try the chainsaw with 5Aw battery. Again I’m impressed with the power and efficiency. This 18” chainsaw easily cut down a 12” diameter oak and sliced the trunk and branches into sizes easily handled on one charge with battery capacity to spare. I’m definitely considering purchase of the EGo blower as well. I will likely order the tool only blower as my current capacity of batteries exceeds demand and the re-charge process is relatively quick. I’m definitely a fan of the EGo product line. These tools are well made and should last a long time if not abused.
