Initial use shows this to be a powerful splitter, but not perfect
The short version is that this is a powerful log splitter that makes quick work of splitting wood. The Alpha Works engine starts easily and runs strong. Bought it on sale from the maunfacturer and that made it a tremendous value. However, there are some issues that prevent it from being 5-stars. The assembly instructions avoided the sometimes humorous wording that results when they are translated from Chinese to English by translators who do not have English as a first language. How did they do this? They accomplished this by essentially not having any written instructions. There are diagrams that show the various steps of assembly and you are left to fill in the blanks. This isn't really a solution as much as it is a side-stepping of the issue. No points for effort here. Maybe even more unforgiveable is the lack of actual fluid quantities for filling the engine crankcase with oil or the hydraulic unit with hydraulic fluid. Instead of knowing a firm amount of these fluids to add, you are just left with adding and checking the dipsticks. Honestly, that light have been a deal-breaker for me, if I had known about it, because it hints at how much help the manufacturer is likely to be if you have an issue. The one main flaw in the construction of this unit involves the use of a clear hose for the return of hydraulic fluid from the hydraulic cylinder to the hydraulic pump. This uses simple hose clamps to attach the hose to flanges in both units, one of which blew off and dumped all the fluid from the machine despite cranking down on the clamp to a point where if felt like the clamp might strip. This should be a low-pressure side of the system, unless the unit was possibly overfilled with hydraulic fluid (remember the part about no solid quantities being given for added fluids?). I am in the precess of refilling the unit and will be adding fluid until the piston runs smoothly thoughout its stroke. This likely could have been avoided with a little information from the manufacturer. Overall I think this unit will have been a worthwhile purchase, but the shortcomings noted prevent it from being 5-stars.

Great Little Log Splitter
Bought this for my husband knowing nothing about log splitters. At first, I could tell he may have wanted something different ( stand up one for storing ??? ) After deciding to keep it & try it ( he loved the price ! ) He is extra happy with it, says it splits bigger logs than he thought it would, not too loud , easy to start & best of all stores away not taking too much space. Highly recommend !!!
