Husqvarna 445 Chainsaw Power and Performance
Straight out of the box, the Husqvarna 445’s build quality was evident. It felt solid yet manageable, weighing around 11.2 lbs. Once I fired it up, the 2.8 hp engine, backed by a 3.06 cu. inch cylinder displacement, really showed its strength. Whether I was slicing through thick branches or trimming smaller limbs, the 445 didn’t miss a beat. Its 9,000 rpm max power speed made quick work of tough tasks, yet the saw was easy to handle, thanks to its ergonomic design.
Husqvarna 445 Chainsaw Design and Comfort
Weighing in at 11.2 lbs, the 445 is comfortable to handle, thanks in part to its LowVib technology which significantly reduces vibrations. This feature was particularly beneficial for reducing fatigue during extended use. The ergonomic design of the saw also made it easy and comfortable to handle.
Husqvarna 445 Chainsaw Efficiency and Ease of Use
I appreciated the Smart Start technology and the air purge system, which made starting the chainsaw almost effortless. The X-Torq engine’s fuel efficiency was another plus. Not only did it deliver the power I needed, but it also did so without guzzling gas, which I found impressive.

Husqvarna 445 Chainsaw Durability and Maintenance
The forged three-piece crankshaft offers maximum durability, even for tough jobs. The centrifugal air cleaning system is another notable feature that impressed me. It expels larger dust and debris particles before they reach the air filter, thus enhancing engine life. Maintenance is made convenient with easy-to-remove components like the filter and spark plug.
Safety and Additional Features
Safety is a key aspect of the Husqvarna 445. The chainsaw reduces the risk of injury due to kickback and includes a transparent fuel indicator for easy fuel level checks. I also appreciated the easy-to-open caps that secure firmly, a small but significant detail, especially when wearing gloves.
Cutting Equipment and Specifications
The chainsaw is equipped with an 18-inch bar, although it can support a range from 13 to 20 inches. The chain type is SP33G with a .050″ gauge and a .325″ pitch, which I found to be effective for precise cuts. The X-CUT® Chain is exceptionally sharp and durable, enhancing the overall cutting experience.

Maintenance of Husqvarna 445
Maintaining the Husqvarna 445 chainsaw is crucial for ensuring its performance and longevity. Here’s a guide to maintaining this specific model:
- Regular Engine Maintenance:
- Check and Change Engine Oil: Use the recommended oil type (SAE 10W-30) and follow the manufacturer’s guidelines for oil changes.
- Air Filter Maintenance: Regularly clean or replace the air filter to ensure efficient engine operation. The centrifugal air cleaning system reduces the frequency of cleaning needed.
- Chain and Guide Bar Care:
- Sharpening the Chain: Keep the chain sharp for optimal cutting performance. A dull chain makes the saw work harder and reduces efficiency.
- Adjusting Chain Tension: Regularly check and adjust the chain tension. A loose chain can jump off the bar, while an overly tight chain can cause wear.
- Lubricating the Chain: Ensure the chain is well-lubricated during use. Check the oil level in the chain oil tank before each use.
- Fuel Management:
- Use Fresh Fuel: Use clean, fresh gasoline with a maximum of 10% ethanol. Stale fuel can cause starting problems and damage the engine.
- Clean Fuel Cap Area: Keep the area around the fuel cap clean to prevent debris from entering the tank.
- Cleaning the Chainsaw:
- Regular Cleaning: After each use, clean the chainsaw to remove sawdust, dirt, and debris.
- Cleaning the Cooling System: Regularly clean the cooling fins on the cylinder and check that the air intake at the starter unit is not blocked.
- Checking and Replacing Spark Plug:
- Regularly check the spark plug condition and gap. Replace the spark plug if worn or fouled.
- Inspecting for Damage:
- Regularly inspect the chainsaw for loose or damaged parts. Check the condition of the starter cord, throttle trigger, and all safety features.
- Storage:
- When storing the chainsaw for an extended period, drain the fuel from the tank, clean the chainsaw, and store it in a dry, safe place.
- Professional Servicing:
- For complex maintenance tasks or if you notice any unusual performance issues, take your chainsaw to a professional or Husqvarna service center.
By adhering to these maintenance practices, you can keep your Husqvarna 445 in top condition, ensuring it’s ready and reliable for your cutting needs. Regular care not only prolongs the life of your chainsaw but also helps maintain its performance and safety.
Conclusion
The Husqvarna 445 is a high-performing, versatile, and user-friendly chainsaw. It stands out for its power, ergonomic design, and ease of use, making it suitable for a wide range of cutting tasks. While it may be a significant investment at $419.99, its performance, durability, and array of user-friendly features make it a worthwhile purchase for anyone looking for a reliable chainsaw for frequent use.
FAQs
- Is the Husqvarna 445 suitable for professional tree felling?
While the 445 is powerful, it’s designed more for homeowners or light professional work. For full-scale tree felling, a larger professional model might be more suitable. - How does the LowVib® technology affect long-term use?
LowVib® significantly reduces vibrations, making the chainsaw more comfortable to use for longer periods and reducing user fatigue. - Can the 445 run on alternative fuels like ethanol blends?
Husqvarna recommends using clean, fresh gasoline. If using an ethanol blend, it should not exceed 10% ethanol (E10). Higher ethanol blends can damage the engine. - How often does the air filter need to be cleaned or replaced?
This depends on usage, but with the centrifugal air cleaning system, the filter requires less frequent cleaning. Check it regularly and clean or replace it as needed. - What safety gear should be worn when using the Husqvarna 445?
Always wear protective gear, including a helmet, safety glasses, ear protection, gloves, chaps, and sturdy boots. - Is the Husqvarna 445 easy to start in cold weather? The Smart Start system and air purge feature make it easier to start in cold weather compared to chainsaws without these features.
- How does the 445 compare to battery-powered chainsaws?
The 445 offers more power and longer run time compared to most battery-powered models, but it’s also heavier and noisier, with the need for fuel.

After two years developed a bog on full throttle. Defective coil which had a lifetime warranty which cost $90 to replace by an authorized dealer. Two years later developed an air leak which would cost more than the saw is worth to diagnose and repair according to the same authorized dealer. I found a leak in a crankshaft seal which requires a complete tear down of the saw. I will crack this thing open and attempt to repair but if it doesn't run right or when it fails again I will be more than satisfied to lay into it with several .45 auto rounds. Get real buy STIHL, watch for a $50 off deal from the manufacturer. I bought an MS250 for less than I paid for this Husky POS and am very happy with the STIHL.
