STIHL MS 261 C-M Chainsaw vs Competitors
The STIHL MS 261 C-M stands out among competitors like the Husqvarna 550 XP and Echo CS-501P, thanks to its advanced technology and superior user experience. While all three chainsaws share similar power and capabilities, the MS 261 C-M excels with its M-Tronic™ engine management system, which ensures consistent performance by automatically adjusting to environmental conditions. Additionally, the easy-start feature and advanced anti-vibration system provide unmatched comfort and convenience, making it a top choice for professionals seeking reliability and ease of use during extended tasks.
Husqvarna 550 XP
The Husqvarna 550 XP is a robust chainsaw powered by a 50.1 cc engine producing 4.0 horsepower, making it a strong competitor to the STIHL MS 261 C-M. It features X-Torq® technology, which enhances fuel efficiency and reduces emissions, but it falls short of the M-Tronic™ engine management system found in the MS 261 C-M. Without the ability to automatically adjust engine performance to environmental conditions, the 550 XP cannot match the precision and efficiency of the MS 261 C-M. While the 550 XP does include a good anti-vibration system, it lacks the advanced comfort and fatigue reduction provided by STIHL’s system, making the MS 261 C-M a better choice for extended use.
Echo CS-501P
The Echo CS-501P is a solid chainsaw, equipped with a 50.2 cc engine delivering 4.0 horsepower, matching the power output of the STIHL MS 261 C-M. However, it lacks the M-Tronic™ engine management system, meaning it doesn’t automatically adjust engine performance based on environmental conditions, which can affect efficiency and consistency. The CS-501P includes an easy-start system, but it isn’t as smooth or reliable as the system on the MS 261 C-M. Additionally, the anti-vibration system in the Echo CS-501P is more basic, leading to increased fatigue during extended use compared to the MS 261 C-M. While the Echo CS-501P is a capable option, it falls short in terms of advanced technology and user comfort.

Seems you overlooked the fact that the Husqvarna 550XP has Autotune, Husky’s version of Mtronic. I’ve owned both and the 261CM is a great saw but I give the Husky a slight edge. I think the bottom line is which brand has the best dealer support in your area.

May 9, 2023 12:10 amLove this saw , it is my all around , go to saw for all size trees , weather it be spruce , birch or red oak , it handles anything you put through it. The only complaint i have is the very limited amount of upgrades and or accessories available for this particular model . I mainly cut red oak in an area with a lot of oak wilt and would love to have a full wrap handle bar for it during the occasional left handed cuts . Also would like to upgrade to a better professional or larger air filter and maybe a full skid plate . Im not sure how a muffler mod would work with the carb not being able to adjust anything but find the performance is exceptional . I just like being heard out in the woods , and show off a little to cutting buddies . Other than that , its by far the best saw in my collection of 63 saws and growing !!!
