Cubic Mini Wood Stoves, renowned for their Canadian craftsmanship, have become a sought-after choice in the world of wood-burning stoves. Our longstanding partnership with Cubic Mini Wood Stoves has provided us with in-depth insights into their products, with the Cubic Mini Stoves, in particular, garnering significant attention on our platform. While we continuously evaluate and compare various tiny wood stoves, the GRIZZLY and CUB models consistently emerge as customer favorites.
Cub Mini Wood Stove
Among these models, The Cub stands as the more compact alternative, tailored for heating spaces ranging from 100 to 200 square feet. Its smaller size is a remarkable feature, making it the perfect fit for even the most limited spaces. Despite its diminutive stature, The Cub delivers robust performance, efficiently warming your environment during the transitional seasons of Spring and Fall. Its versatility and efficient heating capacity make it an appealing choice for smaller spaces.
Grizzly Wood Stove
On the other hand, The Grizzly, while larger than The Cub, maintains a compact profile and is capable of heating areas spanning 200 to 400 square feet. This extended coverage area, coupled with its compact design, renders The Grizzly equally well-suited for smaller homes or various other spaces. What sets it apart is its ability to perform consistently through the colder Winter months, providing dependable warmth and comfort.
Craftmanship and Aesthetic Design
The Cubic Mini CB-1210 Grizzly Wood Stove is a testament to meticulous craftsmanship and attention to detail. Its compact form factor is designed with precision, ensuring every component fits seamlessly, and the overall construction is robust and reliable. The use of high-quality materials, including durable steel, guarantees longevity and resilience. The welds and joints are expertly executed, further enhancing the stove’s durability.
Additionally, the Grizzly undergoes rigorous quality control measures during manufacturing, assuring users of a dependable and well-crafted heating solution. Its consistent performance over time reflects the dedication to superior craftsmanship, making it a standout choice for those who appreciate quality.
Beyond its exceptional performance, the Grizzly Wood Stove boasts an aesthetic design that adds a touch of rustic elegance to any living space. Its compact size allows it to be seamlessly integrated into smaller rooms without overwhelming the visual aesthetics. The sleek and modern look, complemented by the minimalist finish, enables it to fit into a range of interior design styles.
The gracefully curved edges and carefully designed air vents not only contribute to its functionality but also lend an artistic appeal. The sight of the dancing flames through the viewing window enhances the cozy ambiance, making it a centerpiece in the room. Whether you’re seeking a functional heating solution or a design element that elevates the charm of your space, the Cubic Mini Grizzly Wood Stove excels in both aspects, making it a visually pleasing addition to your home.
Performance Evaluation
- Heating Efficiency 9/10: The primary purpose of any wood stove is to keep you warm. The Cubic Mini GRIZZLY excels in this department. With a heat output of up to 12,000 BTUs, it can comfortably warm a small to medium-sized room. I found it to be exceptionally efficient at heating my cabin, providing a cozy ambiance during cold winter nights.
- Burn Time 9/10: The Cubic Mini GRIZZLY impresses with its extended burn times. Thanks to its well-insulated design and a small firebox, it can burn for up to 6-8 hours on a single load of wood. This not only saves you time and effort but also reduces the need for constant refueling.
- Emissions 10/10: Environmentally-conscious users will appreciate that the GRIZZLY is EPA certified and produces minimal emissions. It has a low carbon footprint compared to many other wood stoves, making it a responsible choice for those concerned about air quality.
- Build Quality 10/10: The GRIZZLY’s compact and robust design is perfect for small spaces. Its durable steel construction ensures it can withstand the test of time, and it radiates a rustic charm that fits well in any cabin or tiny home.
The sleek lines and rounded edges not only contribute to its aesthetic charm but also promote efficient airflow and heat distribution. The Grizzly’s design is a testament to the principle that heating solutions can be both functional and visually pleasing, making it a standout choice for those who value both performance and aesthetics in their living spaces.
Versions of Cubic Mini Wood Stoves
Both the CUB and GRIZZLY share a common build, crafted from sturdy steel and incorporating a glass window to observe the fire’s dance. They are both equipped with a secondary combustion system, a feature that promotes effective combustion, resulting in reduced smoke and emissions. Moreover, both stoves are thoughtfully designed with a top rail, providing a secure platform for placing kettles or pans for cooking or water heating. If additional cooking space is required, this rail can be conveniently removed.
The structural components of both models consist of high-quality materials:
- A 3/16″ laser-cut steel top plate, which furnishes the stoves with a resilient and heat-tolerant surface, capable of withstanding high temperatures and frequent usage.
- A 1/8″ laser-cut steel body, contributing to the overall robustness and longevity of the stoves.
- Utilization of 1/2″ thick vermiculite firebrick insulation, a pivotal component enhancing the stoves’ heat retention and efficiency, preventing unnecessary heat loss.
- Inclusion of 3/16″ thick self-cleaning ROBAX glass, serving the dual purpose of offering a clear and self-maintaining view of the flames while providing an extra layer of safety, thanks to its exceptional heat resistance.
- The elegant touch of brass-plated coil handles, which not only enhance the stoves’ design but also remain cool to the touch, ensuring safe handling.
Comparison Table between Cubic Mini GRIZZLY and Cubic Mini CUB
The only real differences are in the dimensions and heat output, as shown in the following table.

Once you’ve decided to go with the Cubic Mini Wood Stove brand, the size of your space becomes the primary determinant of which model is most suitable for your needs. Additionally, it’s essential to take into account the insulation level of your space and the prevailing climate in your location.
Our recommendation leans towards the GRIZZLY, primarily because it’s better to err on the side of caution when it comes to staying warm during winter. The CUB isn’t officially endorsed for winter use, except in the mildest climates. The Grizzly Wood Stove, on the other hand, has undergone extensive testing in some of the coldest climates, and the majority of users have reported satisfaction with its performance.
Both the Cub and the Grizzly, when unshielded, require a 20-inch clearance in all directions. However, when correctly shielded and mounted, the clearance requirements are reduced to just 3 inches. It’s worth noting that both appliances incorporate a 3-inch stove pipe as a part of a complete flue system for effective ventilation.
Cubic Mini CB-1210 GRIZZLY Burn Times
One of the most common inquiries that arise concerning compact wood stoves revolves around their burn duration. People often wonder, “How long can these stoves burn?” This curiosity extends to the possibility of achieving overnight burns, which can be a significant convenience, sparing you the need to tend to the fire during the night.
Many individuals find it challenging or even impossible to attain full all-night burn times with the Grizzly or Cub Wood Stoves. However, several strategies can bring you closer to this goal:
- Optimal results are achieved by burning dry, seasoned hardwoods that are precisely sized.
- The use of compressed or densified logs can also extend the burn time significantly.
- Fill the firebox as fully as possible with well-prepared wood, or as one individual cleverly put it, “stack it like Tetris.”
Additionally, several other measures can enhance the Grizzly wood stove’s heating efficiency, such as the utilization of heat fans and heat reclaiming bands. For more innovative ideas, consider exploring our compilation of Cubic Mini tips. We also discussed the “upside down fire” technique in our review of the Dwarf Tiny Wood Stove, which has the potential to help achieve the coveted all-night burn.

Cons
- Limited Capacity for Larger Spaces: While the grizzly excels at heating smaller to medium-sized spaces, it may not be suitable for larger areas. - Slightly Higher Initial Cost: Compared to some competitors, the initial cost of the grizzly may be slightly higher. While the long-term benefits in terms of efficiency and burn times can offset this higher initial investment, it’s essential to consider your budget and requirements. Its efficient heat output and extended burn times create a warm and welcoming atmosphere without the need for a central heating system. It’s a perfect addition to a snug living space where you want to enjoy the ambience of a wood stove.
- Off-Grid or Remote Locations: For those living in off-grid or remote locations, the grizzly becomes an essential asset. It efficiently utilizes wood as a readily available fuel source, reducing the reliance on electricity or gas for heating. The stove’s ability to provide warmth even in areas with limited infrastructure makes it an excellent choice for those seeking self-sufficiency and independence.
- Seasonal Cabins or Vacation Homes: Seasonal cabins or vacation homes that aren’t in use year-round can benefit from the grizzly. It’s a reliable heating solution that doesn’t require constant attention, making it an excellent choice for spaces that may remain unoccupied for extended periods. When you arrive, your cabin will be comfortably warm, and ready for relaxation or outdoor adventures.
- Emergency Heating: The grizzly can also serve as a reliable source of emergency heating. In situations where power outages or extreme weather conditions are common, having a wood stove like the grizzly can be a lifesaver. It ensures you stay warm and comfortable even when other heating sources may fail.
Final Thoughts
In conclusion, the Cubic Mini CB-1210 GRIZZLY Wood Stove has proven itself as a remarkable choice for those seeking efficient, eco-friendly heating in compact living spaces. Its outstanding heating efficiency, extended burn times, and low emissions make it a standout performer in its class. The GRIZZLY’s stylish design adds a touch of charm to any room while keeping it warm and cozy. Great review of the stove! As an owner of this stove I will say that you will NOT get 6-8 hours of burn time, 2 hours is the most realistic and even that is hard to achieve with seasoned hardwood.
