Have a Blaze King Ashford 30 series. It's frustrating! Wood stoves have been our primary heat source for over 40 years. Now on 40 forested acres in Oregon with mixed conifer: pine, fir, oak, and madrone. Our firewood is stocked to over 3 years old, and covered by tarp— a big no-no. We’re building a shed. The big complaints about this stove is that a fire is difficult to build. Have changed from paper-kindling-logs to pellets-extra kindling-logs. The glass quickly blackens with creosote so there is no ambiance. The vent dial is small and in the right rear, where the firewood is. It gets very hot. A tiny adjustment causes big changes we're still trying to master. It does heat well, burn longer, and save over propane. We paid $5k for a floor model. Right now, I would have stayed with our old wood stove that needed stoked overnight.

How tall is your chimney pipe? The BK needs at the very least a 15ft high stack, otherwise you will have drafting issues which might be causing your fire starting issue. Also wood must be properly seasoned, but it sounds like you've got that part. It's a catalytic stove so when burning low and slow, you won't get the fire show. But you can always turn up the vent dial to get a flame show going. Also remember to burn hot every now and then to clear out any creosote.

Ten years ago, I worked in a store which sold Blaze King wood stoves. Of course, my boss told me they were the best wood stoves, as long as the firewood was well seasoned and the catalytic combuster was maintained properly. What impressed and amazed me was when a potential customer told me that they grew up with a Blaze King in their parents' home. The customer was at the store to buy a Blaze King for their new house. They would not consider any other type or brand of stove. A few times, when I was educating a potential customer about the advantages of the Blaze King line of stoves, another customer would interrupt my sales pitch. The second person would say, 'I have owned a Blaze King for 'XX' years. Everything he has told you is true. When I fill the stove, it burns for 'XX' hours.' Often, the second person was successful in making the sale for me. Both scenarios always amazed me. Made my job easy.
